Why Now?

I've finally decided to start blogging about our family. What prompted it? Mostly Mike's deployment to Iraq. The best part of our day together is telling all the funny, sweet and interesting things the kids did that day. This is the best way to share that. I will be trying my best to keep it current, but it isn't easy being all things to all people in this house while Mike is away!

Trip to Colorado

This was our first long car trip as a family.  The kids were extremely excited, and Mike and I were hesitant about how 16 hours of driving (one way) in a car would go.  Here are some excerpts from the trip.

Driving through the "middle of nowhere" New Mexico, Grant said:  Daddy, I think we are driving in circles.
Mike:  Why?
Grant:  Because I keep seeing railroad tracks.  Maybe you should turn right and then left.

(Watching a movie) Ella:  I can't hear it.  Turn it up please!
Grant: (whining and crying) I can't hear it either!
Us looking into the back seat:  Then put on your headphones!

After we went ice skating, this was Grant's prayer at lunch:  ...and Jesus please help me to ice skate so I can be ice skate man when I big.  Jesus name, Amen.

(In our condo with us brewing coffee in the background)
G:  Sshhhhh, quiet Ella, someone is still sleeping. (he thought the coffee maker was someone snoring)

More Ramblings of a 3 year old

Grant to Gracie:  I know you won't bite me...but no biting in the Dillinger household.

Grant to Ella:  Mommy is making presents in her bedroom. Ima peek!

Grant to Mike at nap:  Daddy, I'm going to listen to mommy make presents while I nap.

Watching Calliou, Grant's favorite cartoon:
G:  Mommy, what planet does Calliou live on?
Me:  Earth.
G: Oh, he lives on earth like us!

Grant to Ella:  Ow!  You hurt my toe.
Ella:  I'm sorry Grant.
Grant:  I forgive you.
(A few minutes later) Grant: Ella, I still love you.

And my favorite:
Grant:  Hummty Dummty sat on a wall, Hummty Dummty had a gweat fall, all the horses and men couldn't put hummty together again.  I guess they didn't have tape.

I can see your....

This is a common occurrence these days...

(Ella is naked getting ready for a bath)

G:  El-la!  I can see your bu-ut!
Ella:  (screaming) Grant!!!  I need my privacy!!!  Don't look at me!!!  (Ella runs into bathroom)
G:  El-la!  I can see your sha-dow!

Ramblings of a 7 year old

Snuggling at bedtime:

Ella:  I could search the whole world and outer space (and more but I just can't think of it right now)and I couldn't find a better mommy than you.  Out of all the mommies in the world, you are at the top of my list.

Call me _________

Grant has requested that we no longer call him some of his nicknames.  Below are a couple of the ones he would like to be called.

G:  You are the best mommy in the whole world.
Me:  You're such a sweet babe.
G:  I'm not a babe, I'm Grant-Booster.  Call me a Sweet Grant-Booster!

G:  Call me cracker!
Me:  Why?
G:  Because I crack you up!

And speaking of crackers...

G:  We had a snack today at school.  It was graham crappers and bananas.  I will make some for you.  It will be gluten-free!

A List of Ramblings of a 3 year old

For some reason, perhaps since it was the holidays, Grant had lots of questions about God and talked a lot about him.  Here are a few of his ramblings:

G:  Will Gracie know that baby Jesus is going to be born on Christmas?

G: (at prayer time)  ...and Jesus I love you.  You are my best friend.  I wish I could hug you.

G:  Is Jesus big?
Me:  He was the same size as daddy when He was on earth.  He is in heaven now.
G:  Can we sing silent night so He can come back down to earth again?

G: Mommy, God is Jesus, Jesus is God!  Jesus has the whole world in His hands.  That means He is holding it in His hands in space!  Does He only live in heaven?
Me:  His spirit, the Holy Spirit, will live in your heart when you decide to follow Him.
G:  Oh, then I will be full of fruit (fruit of the spirit) when He lives in me.  Yum, I love fruit!

G:  (after waking up) Mommy, God took away my nightmares!

G: (praying at bedtime)  Dear God, thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Ella and Grandma and Grandpa.  And good job for bringing them here safely.

G:  You're a nice dog Gracie.  God is in your heart.

G:  (a blanket over his head)  Look at me!  I'm Mary!

Finally, a new entry!

Sorry  everyone, it has been FOREVER since I blogged.  I have lots of excuses but they are all pretty lame when I think of it.  However, I have been writing some things down on paper that I will try to add.

Today, Sunday, Mike had to fly out for a work meeting schedule for early tomorrow morning.  Ella and Grant have not been pleased about this.  Ella tried her usual tactics of trying to get someone to stay (whether it's daddy or grandparents), but of course, Daddy had to go.  Finally, she came up with this.

Ella:  Daddy, do you know you are sinning against God and breaking one of the 10 commandments?

Mike: What??

Ella:  Yes, you are.  Sunday is the Sabbath day and you are not supposed to work.  But you ARE working.

Mike:  Well, not really.  I'm only flying today, I actually don't have to work until tomorrow morning.

Of course, the more experienced debater won, but she is soon going to surpass him!
