(Grant acting silly)
Me: Grant, you are such a ham.
Ella: What does that mean?
Me: It means he is good at taking jokes and giving them.
Grant: (Pretending he is handing out something to me, then Ella, then every object in the room) Here you go! Joke! Here you go! Joke!
Ella: What is he doing?
Me: He is giving us jokes!
Why Now?
I've finally decided to start blogging about our family. What prompted it? Mostly Mike's deployment to Iraq. The best part of our day together is telling all the funny, sweet and interesting things the kids did that day. This is the best way to share that. I will be trying my best to keep it current, but it isn't easy being all things to all people in this house while Mike is away!

This is from our sitter Kelly:
Kelly: OK, Ella it's time to go to bed.
Ella: AHHHH. (pouting)
Kelly: Now Ella, no pouting.
Ella: You should live with me. The pouting is a LOT worse.

Chicken
(No context, totally random)
Ella: So, does chicken come from chicken?
Me: Um, yes chicken comes from chicken.
Ella: So, you're telling me that the chicken from HEB (our grocery store) comes from a chicken?
Me: Yes.
Ella: Huh.

Go Bunnies
This is what Ella wrote on a whiteboard at Mike's office. Mike said the ladies found it pretty funny. She is nearly obsessed with bunnies, and hates snakes since they eat bunnies.

Toots
Me: (Ella sitting next to me) Ella, if you need to toot, please go away and do it.
Ella: (Running to a corner) OK, mommy is this far enough?
Me: Yes.
Ella: *toot* Uh oh, I just peed a little.
(Ella watched over my shoulder as I typed and when I got to the part about peeing, she said "yep".)

My Sweet, Sweet Boy
Today when Grant got up from his nap he looked at me and said, "I love your beautiful hair. And your beautiful nose." He is too good to be true.

Potty Training
We finally decided to get serious about Grant's potty training. He has been going on the potty when asked, but would still go in his diaper. So, last Monday I told him no more diapers. I said, "Big boys use the potty and babies use diapers." (Grant will never let a baby comment slip by without him telling you that he is a big boy.) He cried for his diapers and then he said, "Momma, I baby, I baby."
So I rolled up all the rugs and for this past week and he has been wearing NOTHING on the bottom unless we left the house. (Whenever he wore underwear, he would just wet himself). That meant a few puddles on the floor and one poop on the carpet but today he had his first day with NO accidents! Yea Grant!

Ella's Snuggle
Tonight after Grant was in bed, Ella asked to snuggle with us. So we snuggled her in our bed. This usually ends up bad for me. I usually get a head butt to the face or an elbow to my body. However, tonight she was very snugly. After a bit Mike said, "this is how Grant snuggles", and proceeded to rub his cheek against hers and hold her close. After about 5 seconds she could tolerate no more. She said, "Ugh! You're choking me! I need to get a drink of water!" After her water, she came back to bed and we snuggled for a bit more and then she said, "All right, I've had enough. I'm going to go hide."

Ramblings of a 6 year old and 2 year old
The discussion in the car tonight:
Me: Look at the bluebonnets!
Grant: Yea! I love Blue-Bomb-its
Ella: Grant, they aren't Blue-Bomb-its, they are Blue-VOMITS!!!!
(repeat above conversation about 20 times, until our car pulls into the garage)

Ramblings of a 6 Year Old
Ella: Mommy, are we going to have any more babies?
Me: Probably not, unless God really wants us to have one.
Ella: Oh, I really want a little baby. They are so cute. I want a baby sister.
Me: What if God gave us a boy?
Ella: Oh, well that would be good. Then he would distract Grant so he would leave me alone!

Grant Stories
When I was picking up Grant from school, he was playing with his teacher's charm bracelet. He noticed she had a tattoo on the inside of her wrist. He licked four of his fingers and tried to rub it off her wrist. Hilarious!
Also today, his teacher told me during nap time he was singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider very loudly. His teacher told him it was OK to sing, he just needed to lower his voice. So he crouched down close to the floor and continued signing.

Ramblings of a 6 year old AND two year old
Ella's Ramblings:
Ella: Mommy, I'm not feeling good. Can I get extra attention from you today?
Ella was upset when she found out another student scribbled on her picture. She said, "Mommy, I'm going to tell whoever did this to meet me outside at recess. I'm going to have a talk with them!
Grant's Ramblings:
Grant: Momma, I give Elmo bowl. He puking.
On the way to school (a funny smell in the car):
Grant: Mommy, you poop?
Me: No!
Grant: Ella, you poop?
Ella: No Grant! Only YOU poop in your diaper, not us!

Ramblings of a 5 year old
Ella: I have questions for Jesus when I get to heaven. But I think he will be too busy making people to answer my questions. I think he is sitting in a chair making people on a table.
Ramblings of a 5 year old
Tonight Kelly babysat the kids. I just love it when she does because inevitably she has some good blogging material when I get home. A little background for those who don't know. Ella LOVES dresses. It would be all she would wear. But, she has other clothes in her closet she must wear. Every morning was a major battle picking out clothes. So, I put up a chart where each day of the week she has to wear either pants, a skirt, or dress depending on the day of the week. Friday, which is today, is skirt day. Problem solved! And since she loves dresses so much, we often threaten having to wear pants on a dress day for negative behavior. So here it goes:
Ella: Kelly, are you in trouble?
Kelly: (confused and a little worried) No, why?
Ella: Because you are wearing pants, and today is skirt day. If you are wearing pants, that must be your consequence for your behavior.
Kelly: Laughing....
On a different day...
Ella: Grant, are you Jewish?
Grant: heh (yes)
Ella: No, you aren't Jewish, you're Christian like me. Are you Jewish?
Grant: No.
Ella: That's right, you're not. You aren't wearing your hat!
Ella looking at these pictures of Grant:
Ella: Grant looks like Grandpa Jerry because he always has to sit down a lot!

Ramblings of a 5 year old
Ella: "Grant, were you made in China?"
Ella at Mike's office: "Daddy, what happens if a lawyer drops a glass?
Mike: "What?"
Ella: "It breaks!"
(I was hoping for a great punchline).
Me: "Ella, will you promise to live by me when you grow up?
Ella: "I can't promise anything. That is a long time from now."

Sweet Ella
My sweet Ella. Today I was telling her how thankful I was that God healed her last week when we were at the ER suspecting an appendicitis (turns out it was a really bad bellyache from too much lactose the night before). Then I just asked if she was excited to go to school tomorrow. She said yes. Then I asked her if she would like to go to school everyday, or to do it like it is now, with me teaching her 3 days a week. She said, "I wish you could teach me everyday. That way I wouldn't miss any time with you." Oh, my sweet precious girl. How I drink up this time. I know in just a few short years, she will be trying to spend more time with friends than with me.
